Well, I've been having problems with the car running/idling so I arrange a group of friends to come by to help with the carbs. Joe Ricard, in the SIMA jumpsuit, came in from Mississippi to help. He's the friend that rebuilt the engine. |
The problem that I've been having was the fuel was pushing past the float. I thought that the floats weren't adjust correctly, but Joe figured the fuel pump had too much pressure. Well, Joe was right. The fuel pump that I purchased, specifically for carbs, was putting out over 20psi. |
Before anyone else arrived, Joe and I rebuilt the carbs. We found that the fuel had discolored and was clogging up the jets. We cleaned all of the jets and the inside of each carb, then installed the rebuilt kit. |
|
Joe and I also did a 'string' alignment on the car. |
Finally, everyone showed up to help. After feeding everyone, we went over to the car and finished up the installation of the new fuel pump, a facet pump rated between 2 - 3.5 psi. Then we started the engine. It idled perfectly. |
This shows everyone that assisted today. Joe, Brett, John, TC, Steve, Paul and Glenn. We also installed the front and rear trunk lids and the rear bumper. Thanks again guys. |

Today I installed the rubber around the windshield, the chrome trim around the doors and the associated rubber seals. With Robin's help, we also finished bleeding the brakes. (Notice spilled brake fluid under car.) |
Also installed the front bumper. |
Today was the first day since February 2003 that this car has moved under it's own power. Robin rode with me, up and down the driveway to test the brakes, clutch and gear shifter. Everything is working perfectly. I won't be doing anymore work on this car until I repaint the outside, sometime next year. I hope you have enjoyed this photo-documentary as much as I have. See ya'll on the road soon. |
