Well, I finally got back to working on this car again. This shows the driver's side jack point before any repair. The jack point was completely gone, showing the heater tube inside the longitudinal. The passenger side had the jack point still in place but there was heavy rust.

This shows where I cleaned up the area. Basically I ground any of the remaining jack point metal, then applied Ospho.

This is the piece of metal that I created to cover the opening. I decided to just cover it instead of butt-welding. This piece is not structural. I bent the piece to attach to the bottom of the long. I had to carefully drill a hole in the bottom so that the bolt that holds the bottom of the side rocker panels to the body can pass through it.

This shows the new jack point, supplied when I bought the car, but I decide not to install it. If I was going to install this piece, I would first weld the square tubing to the new metal, then weld the jack piece to the square tubing and the new metal.

I welded the new metal to the longitudinal, then applied seam sealer completely around it. When I removed the old jack point, I wasn't able to remove the top section. The only way to do that would be to remove a portion of the rear fender, then weld it back into place.

The shows the primer applied.
